Apply For Instant Pan Card Free of Cost

The Instant e-PAN service (Apply For Instant Pan Card Free of Cost) is a convenient facility available to all individual taxpayers who do not yet have a Permanent Account Number (PAN) but possess an Aadhaar card. This pre-login service allows users to:

  • Obtain a digitally signed PAN in electronic format, free of cost, using Aadhaar and a mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
  • Update PAN details as per Aadhaar e-KYC.
  • Create an e-Filing account based on e-KYC details after PAN allotment or updation.
  • Check the status of pending e-PAN requests or download e-PAN, either before or after logging in to the e-Filing portal.

Requirements for Availing Instant Pan Card

To use the Instant e-PAN service, you must meet the following requirements:

  • You have not been allotted a PAN.
  • You have a valid Aadhaar card and a mobile number linked to Aadhaar.
  • You are not a minor as of the date of request.
  • You are not covered under the definition of a Representative Assessee as per Section 160 of the Income Tax Act.

How to Apply For Instant Pan Card

Generate New e-PAN

    1. Visit the e-Filing portal/website home and click on Instant e-PAN.
    2. On the e-PAN page, click Get New e-PAN.
    3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, select the confirmation checkbox, and click Continue.

Note: If your Aadhaar is already linked to a valid PAN, you will receive a message stating, “Entered Aadhaar Number is already linked with a PAN.” If your Aadhaar is not linked with any mobile number, the message “Entered Aadhaar Number is not linked with any active mobile number” will appear.

    1. On the OTP validation page, agree to the consent terms and click Continue.
    2. Enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your mobile number linked with Aadhaar, select the checkbox to validate Aadhaar details with UIDAI, and click Continue.

Note: The OTP is valid for 15 minutes and you have three attempts to enter it correctly. If needed, you can click Resend OTP to receive a new OTP.

    1. On the Validate Aadhaar Details page, select the checkbox to accept the terms and click Continue.

Note: Linking or validating your email ID registered with Aadhaar is optional. If you need to validate or update your email ID, follow the prompts to do so.

  1. Upon successful submission, you will get a success text/email message with an Acknowledgement Number. Keep this number for future reference. A confirmation message will also be sent to your mobile number linked with Aadhaar.

Update PAN Details as per Aadhaar e-KYC

    1. Visit the e-Filing portal homepage and click Instant e-PAN.
    2. On the e-PAN page, click Update PAN.
    3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number, select the confirmation checkbox, and click Continue.

Note: If your Aadhaar is already linked to a valid PAN, you will receive a message stating, “Entered Aadhaar Number is already linked with a PAN.” If your Aadhaar is not linked with any mobile number, the message “Entered Aadhaar Number is not linked with any active mobile number” will appear.

    1. On the OTP validation page, enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your mobile number registered with Aadhaar and click Continue.

Note: The OTP is valid for 15 minutes and you have three attempts to enter it correctly. If needed, you can click Resend OTP to receive a new OTP.

    1. After OTP validation, select the details you want to update as per Aadhaar e-KYC by checking the appropriate boxes and clicking Continue.

Note: You can update the following details: Photo, Name, Date of Birth (ensure your Aadhaar has the full date of birth), Mobile Number, Email ID (requires validation), and Address.

  1. After selecting the details to update, click Confirm.
  2. A success text/email message with an Acknowledgement Number will be displayed. Keep this number for future reference. A confirmation message will also be sent to your mobile number and email ID linked with Aadhaar.

Check the Status of Pending e-PAN Request / Create e-Filing Portal Account / Download e-PAN

    1. Visit the e-Filing portal homepage and click Instant e-PAN.
    2. On the e-PAN page, click Continue under the Check Status / Download PAN option.
    3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click Continue.
    4. On the OTP validation page, enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your mobile number registered with Aadhaar and click Continue.

Note: The OTP is valid for 15 minutes and you have three attempts to enter it correctly. If needed, you can click Resend OTP to receive a new OTP.

    1. On the Current Status of Your e-PAN Request page, you can view the status of your e-PAN request. If your new e-PAN has been generated, click View e-PAN to view it or Download e-PAN to download a copy. You can also click Create e-Filing Account to register on the e-Filing portal.

Note: If you did not validate your email ID during e-PAN generation or PAN detail updation, you must do so during registration.

Download e-PAN – Post Login

    1. Log in to the e-filing portal using your User ID and password.

Note: You need to register on the e-Filing portal after receiving your e-PAN. Refer to the Register for e-Filing (Taxpayer) user manual for more details.

    1. On your Dashboard, navigate to Services > View / Download e-PAN.
    2. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and click Continue.
    3. On the OTP validation page, enter the 6-digit OTP sent to your mobile number registered with Aadhaar and click Continue.

Note: The OTP is valid for 15 minutes and you have three attempts to enter it correctly. If needed, you can click Resend OTP to receive a new OTP.

  1. On the View / Download e-PAN page, you can view the status of your e-PAN request. If your new e-PAN has been generated, click View e-PAN to view it or Download e-PAN to download a copy.
