Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research: The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, invites nominations/applications for the award of Fellowships and Scholarships under the scheme of Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research (TNFCR).

The Ministry of Culture, Government of India, has announced the Tagore National Fellowship for Cultural Research (TNFCR) for the years 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25. This fellowship aims to support scholars and researchers to rejuvenate cultural institutions across India. Open to both Indian and foreign nationals, the fellowship recognizes those who have made significant contributions to their respective field.

The TNFCR was introduced to invigorate and revitalize various institutions under the Ministry of Culture and other identified cultural institutions in the country. The scheme is open to both Indian and foreign nationals. Scholars who have sound academic or professional credentials and have made significant contributions in their respective fields by publishing original research papers in reputed and refereed journals and books are eligible to apply.

TNFCR Fellowship Overview 2025

The scheme has two categories of Awards. The first category is ‘Tagore National Fellows’. Selected candidates will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 80,000/- per month for 02 years

. Up to 15 awards will be given out in a year in this category. The second category is ‘Tagore Research Scholars’. Selected candidates will be paid an honorarium of Rs. 50,000/ per month for 02 years. Under this category, up to 25 awards will be given in a year. Since the current advertisement is for three batch years 2022-23, 2023-24, and 2024-25, accordingly, the total number of Fellowships and Scholarships shall be restricted up to 45 and 75 respectively.

Tagore National Fellows: Honorarium: Rs. 80,000 per month. Duration: 2 years. Awards: Up to 15 per year. 

Tagore Research Scholars: Honorarium: Rs. 50,000 per month. Duration: 2 years. Awards: Up to 25 per year.

How to Apply for TNFCR Fellowship 2025

Candidates may submit their single complete application for these batch years according to the prescribed guidelines of the Scheme, to any one of the Nodal Institutions of his/her choice depending upon the area of research proposed to be undertaken. The list of nodal institutions along with the other relevant details of the Scheme and application form is available on the website of the Ministry -www.indiaculture.gov.in and the Prime Ministers Museum and Library – www.pmml.nic.in under the Scheme Head of the website.

Importnat Date for Apply in TNFCR Fellowship 2025

The application should be sent directly to the respective Nodal Institutions on or before 15th February 2025. The applicants are not required to send a copy of their application to the Ministry of Culture or the Prime Minister Museum and Library (PMML). Applications received after the prescribed date and time will be summarily rejected.

Guidelines for TNFCR Fellowship 2025

The Scheme has been introduced to invigorate and revitalize the various institutions under the Ministry of Culture (MoC) and other identified cultural institutions in the country, by encouraging scholars/ academicians to affiliate themselves with these institutions to work on projects of mutual interest.

To infuse fresh knowledge capital into the institutions, the scheme expects these scholars/academicians to select specific resources of the institutions to use in their projects and take up research works that are related to the main objectives of these institutions. It is also expected that the research work would enrich the institution with a new creative edge and academic excellence. The Scheme will be open to both Indian and foreign nationals. However, the proportion of foreigners will not normally exceed one–third of the total Fellowships awarded in a year. For more details about guidelines click here.
